Directors: Inoky Cameros and Matthew R. Peters Inoky is a graduate of San Carlos
University in Guatemala (Masters Architecture) who started working in
San Andres in 2000 as an intern for the local government. In
addition to managing Volunteer Petén, she also continues to work with
the local government with community planning and development.

Matthew (Mateo) is a graduate of Penn
State University (B.S. Forest Science) and has been living and working
in Guatemala since 1999. Matthew came to Guatemala as a Peace
Corps volunteer in 1999 and started Volunteer Petén in 2002. |

Caretakers:
Genaro (Nayo) Mendez - A native of
San Andres, Genaro has spent most of his life working as a carpenter,
electrician, plumber, mason worker, logger, and has worked in the
jungle in oil exploration and with archeologists. He is in
charge of all of our maintenance and construction projects.

Candelario (Cande) Chable - A native
of San Andres, Candelario has spent most of his life working in the
jungle of Guatemala harvesting palms, harvesting gum, farming, and
raising animals. He is regarded as the #1 source of information
on agriculture and animals in the Petén, and has worked with various
communities and organizations.

Clementina Camal - A native of San
Andres, Clementina comes from a long line of plant healers and
shamans. Her parents have been documented in numerous journals
as experts in traditional healing and medicinal plants. Her
sister is one of the only traditional healers left in the Petén.
Clementina is in charge of our medicinal plant project. She
maintains the garden, harvests plants, and makes medicinal products
that are sold in our local store in San Andres. |

Don Pablo
Lopez - A
native of San Andres and the oldest of our staff members,
Pablo is in charge of protecting the ecological
reserve.
