Yaxha is one of the more amazing Mayan
Archeological sites located in Northern Guatemala. Just a couple
of hours from San Andres and Flores, Yaxha offers spectacular ruins, a
beautiful lake, great camping facilites, and plenty of wildlife.
We are currently looking for
1-2 volunteers that can dedicate 3-4 weeks living in Yaxha and
teaching English on a daily basis to 20-30 caretakers and guides in
the park. You do not need to be TEOFL certified, but it does
help to have some experience teaching.
Volunteers will be living with
the caretakers, and will not be the same experience as living in a
town like San Andres or with a host family. Food and
accomadations are provided by the caretakers, but if you are not
fluent in Spanish you will feel very very isolated for the 3-4 weeks.
So be prepared mentally. Also, you will only get a chance to
leave Yaxha once or twice during the 3-4 weeks to get to Santa Elena
to use internet, banking, etc.
Couples are preferred to
participate in this activity.
