In January 2005, we began construction of a Natural History Museum of the Peten in the Parque Ecologico Nueva Juventud in San Andres, Peten.  The building is planned to be completed in July 2005.  Donations from The Rufford Small Grants and the US Fish and Wildlife Service were used to create all the exhibits for the museum, exhibitions for the interpretive trail, and educational programs associated with the new museum and the ecological park.  Exhibitions were designed and created by Inoky Cameros, and focus on the biodiversity of plants, insects, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and mammals that exist in the Peten. We  inaugurated the museum on Earth Day 2006.
We built the Natural History Museum from scratch with the help of international volunteers and 2 local workers (Genaro Mendez and David Diaz).
